Agri SA has taken over the Drought Disaster Fund which aids in assisting farms affected by the drought. The fund currently stands at R1 878 353,78 and will be used to help producers who require assistance.
Deputy executive of Agri SA, Christo van der Reede said that the take over will ensure that funds are managed at a central point. He also warns the public and farmers against fraudulent bank accounts claiming to be part of the relief fund.
Farmers should also verify any funds or feed received, “Agri SA ensures that the feed it distributes is of a high quality and not years old as this would be detrimental to a farming operation and animals,” says van der Reede.
Farm unions should be contacted if farmers are in need of assistance. Thereafter farmers will complete a need assessment and all applications will be forwarded to Agri SA.
