Bayonne dairy farm

Started by Agribusiness Development Agency (ADA), benefitting emerging farmers in KZN.

Why was it started?
To create an enabling environment aimed at growing the agricultural sector and improving market access for black commercial farmers and agribusiness entrepreneurs, through intensifying land productivity and maximising value-adding opportunities, thus stimulating job creation and economic inclusion in a sustainable manner.

How was it done?
ADA’s Intervention:
• Incorporating energy saving technologies into the farms design, it has since become a state of the art dairy parlour
• Provision of engineering services for the farm, to ensure quality construction, milking machines and auxiliaries which run on an efficient computerised system
• After installing an irrigation system, space for pasture expansion was created.

Social and Economic Implications
The technology provided by ADA has improved productivity on the farm and has reduced the milking time by 50%, while also saving money due to energy saving technologies.
