The Drought Disaster Fund allows all concerned individuals and institutions or companies to make donations. The funds will then be distributed to needy farmers via the relevant Agri SA-affiliated associations in the specific area.

Omri van Zyl (Chief Executive Officer: Agri SA) said it was important that the country rally to the aid of the farmers: “The present drought is the worst in over two decades and the implications could have dire consequences on the country’s food security. While the immediate impact of the drought will be felt by the producer, the consumer will feel the effects as well through shortages of products and price increases of related commodities. This is why it’s important for us to go the extra mile in support of farmers.”

Agri SA recognises the urgency of the situation which is why we have initiated this Drought Disaster Fund. Omri added: “It is vital that we keep the farmers and their workers productive on their farms. This is more than just a measure to ensure that our citizens have food on the table, it also has a direct humanitarian implication in terms of the livelihood of farm workers, farmers and their families.”

Agri SA would like to call on all concerned South Africans to assist our farmers who are essential for the country’s food security and rural economy. Join us in standing by our farming communities in their hour of need.”

For those producers who are in the fortunate position to assist other farmers, Agri SA has created the opportunity to donate fodder to areas where there is a dire need for it. Agri SA has included a platform on this website where fodder donations can be made. They also handle the logistical aspects and collection of the fodder, while the distribution to the areas in need will be done through the provincial affiliations. Producers in need are requested to make applications for aid via their nearest provincial affiliation.
